Oracle/Sun Microsystems: Virtualization's next big thing?

The Oracle/Sun Microsystems virtualization play could create new competition for VMware and other vendors in the server virtualization market.

Oracle said this week it will acquire Sun for $7.4 billion, emphasizing the value of its Solaris operating system and Java programming language. But the company could use the combination of its own software and Sun's hardware to make a strong push into the virtualization market, where competitors include the VMware Virtual Data Center Operating System and Cisco Systems' Unified Computing System.
