Red Hat: Open source virtualization software shifting from Xen to KVM

Xen has ruled the open source virtualization software market, but Red Hat is looking to change all that.

The company's upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization suite is based on another open source product, the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM). In this edition of This Week in Virtualization, Navin Thadani, senior director of Red Hat's virtualization business, talks about the move from Xen to KVM and what it means for his company's standing in the server virtualization market.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is in private beta now. The company will include the KVM-based open source server virtualization hypervisor in its Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 operating system later this year.
