Citrix offers advanced virtualization certifications
Citrix Systems has created two new certifications: the Citrix Certified Enterprise Engineer (CCEE) for Virtualization and the Citrix Certified Integration Architect (CCIA) for Virtualization.
By earning the CCEE for Virtualization certification, IT professionals demonstrate operational planning skills, design experience and integration know-how, the company said. The certification consists of three Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) exams focused on application, desktop of server virtualization, one advanced application virtualization exam and one final exam, which will be available at the end of September 2009. Upon completion of the CCEE for Virtualization certification, candidates can then prepare for the CCIA for Virtualization certification, which requires one more final exam, which will be available in Q4 2009.
Double-Take offers per host licensing
Data protection and replication software provider Double-Take Software Inc. now licenses its Double-Take for Virtual Systems per host, supporting an unlimited number of virtual machines (VMs) running in a VMware vSphere platform. This frees end users from having to track the licenses, the company said. Pricing starts at $9,125 and is per host with unlimited VMs.
Asigra backup software certified for Microsoft Hyper-V
Asigra, a backup software suite commonly used by outsourcers, is now certified to work with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. It's a good fit for virtual environments because of agentless architecture, in which only one client backs up an entire site, which imposes less of a performance penalty on the environment, the company said. It's also easy to configure, can back up any class of system -- physical or virtual, servers or desktops --and can restore to either physical or virtual environments, it added. Other capabilities include VM- or file-level backup, data deduplication and continuous data protection.
Capacity planning tool supports virtualized environments
Hyperformix Inc. has added support for VMware, Microsoft, Citrix, Sun, HP and IBM virtualization platforms in its Capacity Manager 4.0 and Data Manager 3.1 products. Capacity Manager can automatically identify underutilized virtual machines and identify good virtualization candidates, while Data Manager generates reports showing the business case for common virtualization projects, such as server consolidation or SAP upgrades, the company said. The new Hyperformix products can be downloaded from the company's website.
