VMware Inc. launched the first product based on its acquisition of open source email software maker Zimbra in February. The Zimbra Collaboration Suite Appliance is email and collaboration software delivered as a virtual appliance designed to run on vSphere. The appliance also offers a Web client and mobile device synchronization and integrated security features including a firewall, antivirus and antispam monitoring. All Zimbra products are now available via VMware's internal sales as well as channel partner ecosystem; the appliance can also be deployed at vCloud service provider partners. Pricing starts at $625 for a perpetual license covering 25 mailboxes.
Vizioncore refurbishes FlashRestoreVizioncore Inc.'s vRanger Pro will add the new FlashRestore feature later this year and will be previewed at VMworld 2010, which begins Aug. 30. FlashRestore allows for virtual machines to be booted directly from vRanger Pro's snapshot backup images, speeding operational restores, so that end users can get back to work without waiting for the VMDK (or Virtual Machine Disk Format) file to copy across the network.
