Separately, Veeam also reported strong sales growth in the third quarter. The privately held company did not disclose specific revenue numbers, but it said that approximately 2,100 were added in the third quarter -- bringing the overall total to more than 15,000 customers worldwide.
Microsoft Hyper-V buddies up with OpenStack project
Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V will become a part of the OpenStack cloud management project,
Microsoft said. OpenStack, an open-source cloud platform, was launched by Rackspace
and NASA in July.
VMware Labs offers VIX plug-in for vCenter Orchestrator
VMware's vCenter Orchestrator (vCO) is now integrated with the VIX application programming
interface, which automates operating-system processes as vCO Javascript objects and methods
inside virtual machines. The project is a fling, VMware's term for a skunkworks project, but
it's available for download from VMware's website for early adopters. The plug-in creates simple, automated
workflows for Windows or Linux guests, and it can create or delete files or directories inside a
guest.
Netuitive adds capacity management
Netuitive Inc., a competitor to VMware's Integrien, said its self-learning algorithms now report on
capacity management and performance metrics in virtualized environments. The new version also draws
on a unified performance-management database, which accepts data from infrastructure-monitoring
tools from BMC Software, CA and VMware, among others.
Kemp Technologies and NEC add Hyper-V support
Kemp Technologies said its Virtual LoadMaster (VLM) application-delivery controller supports
Microsoft's Hyper-V, making the product one of the first virtual appliance application-delivery
controllers (ADC) to support Hyper-V.
NEC also said its new line of fault-tolerant server hardware will also support Hyper-V. The NEC Express5800/ft series is available in North America and Asia Pacific, with other regions to follow.
TwinStrata certified for VMware HA
Cloud-storage vendor TwinStrata Inc.'s CloudArray is VMware High Availability-certified. The
compatibility allows joint customers to use VMware HA to fail over to TwinStrata's cloud in the
event of an outage.
DroboElite certified for Citrix XenServer
Data Robotics Inc.'s Drobo self-healing DroboElite disk array is now certified for Citrix XenServer
environments. The certification makes Drobo part of the Citrix Ready program, which recommends
third-party products that are complementary to Citrix's offerings.
