HP bundles Citrix XenDesktop 3 with Blade PCs
Hewlett-Packard is giving users of its BladeSystem bc2800 and bc2200 Blade PCs the option to use the connection broker and ICA protocols in Citrix XenDesktop 3. This option is an alternative to HP's own Session Allocation Manager (SAM) broker and Remote Graphics Software (RGS) remote display protocols. HP will include the XenDesktop 3 licenses with theBlade PCs but contends that users can get better multimedia performance from RGS, which recently dropped in price to $35 per seat.

LeftHand offers high-performance Starter SAN for virtual environments
Hewlett-Packard subsidiary LeftHand Networks has a new "starter SAN," or storage area network, for virtual server environments that uses high-performance serial attached SCSI (SAS) drives rather than the lower performance SATA drives often found in entry-level systems. The higher performance drives help satisfy the I/O needs of virtual environments, while LeftHand's architecture automatically balances data volumes across all disk drives, network connections and processors, the company said. The offering also includes thin provisioning, replication and snapshot capabilities. Pricing starts at $35,000 for a 4.8 TB SAS Starter SAN.

In addition, LeftHand updated its SATA Starter SAN, increasing the capacity by 25% to 12 TB over the previous model while maintaining a list price of $30,000.
