Marathon Technologies enhances fault tolerant software
Marathon Technologies on Monday launched two new fault-tolerant software products: everRun VM Lockstep and everRun 2G. The new offering will have to rival VMware's newest release, vSphere, which is due out on April 21 and includes its long-awaited Fault Tolerance feature.
The new Lockstep software claims to provide full system-level fault tolerance to applications running in virtual machines (VMs), which means zero downtime in the event of a hardware failure. The new everRun VM software works with the free version of Citrix XenServer and Essentials for XenServer.
EverRun 2G software is the successor to Littleton, Mass.-based Marathon's everRun HA and everRun FT for Windows Server environments. It offers automated high availability, component-level fault tolerance and system-level fault tolerance and can be used for local or geographically separate continuous availability
Marathon will demonstrate these new products in a live webinar on April 29 at 8:00 a.m. PDT and 11:00 a.m. EDT.
Microsoft technologies used to create private cloud
Kroll Factual Data chose Microsoft technologies to create a private cloud computing environment in its data center.
The information services company deployed Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V virtualization and Microsoft System Center to manage its data center, which is now 85% virtualized. With that, Kroll consolidates from 650 physical servers to 22 systems, with each server running 30 virtual machines.
This level of virtualization, along with Kroll's move to 100% wind-generated power for the entire facility, has led to 89% energy savings across the board, the company said. More information on Kroll's cloud computing project can be found on Microsoft's website.
