VMware support holdouts fast diminishing: VMware Site Recovery Manager supports vSphere 4
The list of VMware products that do not yet support vSphere 4 is shrinking fast. This summer, VMware updated Lab Manager to support vSphere, which began shipping in May. Now, VMware's has announced the availability of vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4 (SRM), its automated disaster recovery product, which also supports vSphere 4. The only remaining VMware product that doesn't support vSphere is VMware View, its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) suite.
Other features of SRM 4 include support for NFSNetwork File System-based storage replication, and simplified "many-to-one" failover using shared recovery sites. List price for SRM 4 starts at $2,118 with one year of Gold support and subscription (SnS).
Veeam Monitor supports logical views of virtual infrastructure
Both the paid and free versions of Veeam Monitor 4.5 now support the company's Business View, which allows enables users to view virtual resources logically, according to business criteria such as department or geographic location. Without it, administrators view resources according to technical criteria such as clusters, hosts or and resource pools. A free add-on, Business View is also available for Veeam Reporter Enterprise, the Veeam nworks Management Pack for VMware and the nworks Smart Plug-in for VMware. Veeam Monitor 4.5 is available immediately for $250 per processor.
