Interview with VMware CIO Mark Egan: Acquisitions, apps and cloud

In this episode of This Week in Virtualization, VMware CIO Mark Egan talks cloud and Microsoft; plus, a preview of Citrix Synergy 2011 and news from Microsoft TechEd.

VMware eats its own cloud dog food, and Soviet-era user interfaces need to go, CIO Mark Egan said in an interview at the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium last week.

Egan discussed his role as CIO, VMware’s acquisition strategy and its recent comparisons to Microsoft. He also provided some details on the company’s internal infrastructure -- a data center that’s 97% virtualized.

This episode of This Week in Virtualization also features virtualization news from Microsoft TechEd 2011, including Veeam Backup and Replication support for Hyper-V and Microsoft’s shift on Exchange Server 2010 support for VMware High Availability. In addition, this podcast previews Citrix Synergy 2011, taking place this week in San Francisco.
