SCVMM 2012 and Microsoft's virtualization strategy

With System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012, Microsoft ups its virtualization management game and sets its sights on VMware in the cloud computing market.

With System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2012, Microsoft is taking on VMware vCloud Director in the cloud computing market.

Microsoft released the SCVMM 2012 beta in March, and the final version is expected later this year. In addition, Hyper-V R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) recently came out as well, bringing Microsoft closer to feature parity with VMware vSphere.

This edition of This Week in Virtualization features Dave Sobel, CEO of Evolve Technologies, a Microsoft partner outside of Washington, D.C. He discusses Microsoft’s approach to management, the company’s late start in the virtualization market and how SCVMM 2012 and Hyper-V R2 SP1 will affect Redmond’s fortunes.

This podcast also features the latest news on vSphere 5, including its storage management features, and a recap of VMware’s Mozy acquisition.
