Where are Citrix and VMware headed with end-user products?

In this podcast, we shed light on Citrix and VMware end-user product roadmaps with a recent news recap and an interview with VMware CTO Kit Colbert.

The end user computing market is growing quickly, and traditional data center heavyweights are making changes fast to extend their business into this emerging space. Familiar names like Citrix and VMware are making news with pricey acquisitions and updated end-user computing and mobility products.

The big news this week came from Citrix Synergy 2014 in Anaheim, California, where Citrix made some important announcements, including the addition of the Workspace Services Suite.

In this edition of the This Week in Virtualization podcast, SearchConsumerization news writer Jake O'Donnell joins the show to recap what he learned at Citrix Synergy about updates to the company's end-user computing and mobility portfolio. O'Donnell shares the complaints and concerns he heard from XenMobile customers and how they hope Citrix improves the enterprise mobility management software, and we discuss whether there was any attention paid to XenServer, Citrix's virtualization platform, at the event.

Executive Editor Colin Steele also joins this week's podcast to share his recent interview with Kit Colbert, VMware CTO for end-user computing. Colbert has been with VMware for 10 years and was promoted to CTO last January, just before the company acquired AirWatch for $1.5 billion. Steele talks with Colbert about the possibility of more potential acquisitions and about his vision for the company's end-user computing roadmap.
