SILVER AWARD: Data Center Intelligence 4.4
VMware VMotion and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) may take a lot of the guesswork out of capacity planning, but they're not totally foolproof. Nor are all VMware hosts in an ESX farm up for the task of reining in errant VMs. This year, CiRBA's Data Center Intelligence 4.4 took home the Silver award for its deep integration with VMware VirtualCenter and DRS, helping to head off unwanted and unnecessary virtual machine migrations at the pass.
"In the 4.4 release, CiRBA can help admins to pre-empt VMware DRS events by forecasting DRS and VMotion jobs based on historical performance trends," explained one judge. The software also automates ESX server cluster design using affinity and anti-affinity rules customized for a user's environment, avoiding labor-intensive rule creation and -- in the long run -- ensuring better reliability and manageability of your ESX server farm.
Of course, CiRBA Data Center Intelligence is also notable for its unique ability to analyze data such as workload patterns and deep configuration data and map them with the real-world business constraints inherent in data center infrastructure design. As always, this information is displayed in a compelling format to aid would-be virtualizers as they identify virtualization candidates.
