BRONZE AWARD: V-Agent
Designed to do for virtual networks what Network Access Control (NAC) products do for physical networks, simply said Catbird Network Inc.'s Security as a Service product V-Agent is "good stuff." Our experts selected this product for the Bronze award for its intrusion-detection capability on a virtual network, which becomes especially important for intervirtual machine traffic that bypasses a physical switch.
V-Agent also stands out from the competition because of its less conventional pricing module: Instead of paying per V-Agent, customers pay only a monthly fee.
How it works: Data is stored only on a Web-accessible security portal, not on the agent itself. The agent itself runs as a guest on the hypervisor, not on the physical LAN. This simplifies and reduces the cost of V-Agent deployment, and it enables V-Agent to see traffic on the virtual subnet (or host).
Simply put: Even if you move from one host server to another, your security product moves with your virtual machine.
