The market features many storage area network technologies, but none as massively scalable as EMC's Symmetrix V-Max
. The V-Max scales to 2 petabytes (or 1,000 terabytes) of usable and protected capacity.
While it can be used in physical or virtual environments, V-Max will encounter few scenarios where its capabilities can be pushed to their limit. The auto-provisioning feature, for instance, speeds the allocation of large amounts of shared storage to a virtual infrastructure. Last, the virtual logical unit number migration feature allows for the movement of disk volumes with running virtual machines from one array to another with no disruption of a virtualized infrastructure.
