Pano Logic

From the get-go, the Pano Logic thin client was built for server-based desktop virtualization. Introduced in August 2007, the device contains no CPU, memory, operating system, drivers, or other software, offloading it all onto the server for ultimate manageability.

"Pano Logic has taken an innovative next step beyond thin-client computing and married it with the flexibility of virtual desktops, with their zero-client approach," said one of our judges. "By eliminating any software at the client, Pano eliminates the need to address distributed software updates and patching of thin-client OS software and extends the effective life of the client device, since upgrades are simply handled within the virtual machines and the central Pano software."

The Pano device connects to keyboard, mouse, display, audio and USB peripherals and back to Windows XP or Vista virtual machine running on a server to using an existing IP network. Pano Logic also gives IT staff the ability to configure virtual machines for groups of users or individuals; roll out updates, upgrades, and patches and perform backups of all PCs on their own schedule. And because it has no software, a Pano desktop is also immune to viruses and other malware.

The Pano Logic client also has a green angle, demanding less than five watts of power to run, versus more than 150 watts for a traditional PC. By moving all software off the desktop and onto the server, Pano reduces desktop TCO by 70%, saving $3,200 per desktop over three years.
