- GSX Server is a server virtualization program for Windows and Linux produced and distributed by VMware,/term>, a subsidiary of EMC Corporation and headquartered in Palo Alto, California. The program facilitates the remote management, provisioning and standardization of virtual machines on a single platform.
In server virtualization, an application program such as GSX Server, IBM VM/ESA or Microsoft VM divides a single physical server into multiple isolated virtual machines called guest OSes or simply guests. Each guest runs on a virtual imitation of the hardware, allowing it to function without modifications. A guest OS does not have to be the same as the host OS.
