Application virtualization

Application virtualization allows you to run software from a remote server rather than on an individual user's computer, and dynamic link library programs, then redirect all the virtualized application's calls to the host server's file system. Advantages of application virtualization include lower hardware, software, and operating system licensing costs and the ability to run multiple versions of an application program concurrently on a single system or across different versions of operating systems. Application virtualization also affords easier application maintenance and creates more portable applications, so application deployment is simpler. Since many virtual applications can reside on a single host, application management, application upgrades and application migrations are much simpler. Application virtualization also increases hardware resource utilization and provides hardware flexibility, system reliability and scalability. It can also be used to prevent server crash and increase application security. This section also focuses on the downfalls of application virtualization and on tips for using application virtualization.
