Storage and networking talk at VMworld 2011

Storage and networking talk at VMworld 2011

Date: Sep 01, 2011

Community organizer Stephen Foskett shares his thoughts on day two of VMworld 2011. Like many others, Foskett had wondered why VMware chose to announce vSphere 5 before VMworld instead of at the big show. VMware CEO Paul Maritz told attendees in his keynote that VMware wanted the other vendors to take center stage announcing their own products.

Of course, VMware itself wasn’t without a few significant announcements. The company is going hand-in-hand with Cisco to address virtual machine (VM) mobility with VXLAN, a technology that brings the benefits of layer 3 networks and allows admins to move VMs over distance. Foskett also discusses advancements in storage for virtual environments and his goals for networking with the IT community at VMworld 2011.
